Well we're kicking off the semester with bang. I'm talking about hitting the ground running. As we all know spring semester is more challenging because it's fast pace and a bit overwhelming due to the well needed but VERY short break.
Anyways. . . The semester project is to design a Courthouse in Downtown Norfolk. The professors wanted to try something different this semester, due to the complaints of fellow classmates that giving the project in portions was a bit drawn out. So the put it all on the table every bit of information they could possibly ask for that regards this project; beginning to end. A bit overwhelming, if you ask me, to look at on the first day of school.
So anyways we were giving the assignment and a day to day break down on where we should be in our designs; cool or what? Also, as expected, we were told the new expectations of us, because it would be ArchiToture unless the bar was raised every semester. Our professor, Daisy Williams, went over our weaknesses overall as a class so we would know mainly what to improve. Structural systems were to be questioned in our previous designs and graphic representations.
New challenges for this semester is to conquer a new software, FormZ. And to design a building at the largest scale we've ever come across. And to overcome our previous oversight of structural systems and pay extreme attention to detail.
I honestly look forward to seeing where everyone will take this project. Will they take a more modern or contemporary approach? Will they stick to basics or will they try to "Reinvent the Wheel?" What would be a suitable material for a courthouse? Brick? Marble? Steel? Or Stucco? Lol. I guess only time will tell.
